Follow Fate into battle!

Alright. This is non-ero. But it is still really damn dark.

Well lets just describe Nanoha for a bit.
The first series (Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha) was rather cute at the beginning before sinking into some more serious issues (mostly based around Fate). Then came Nanoha A’s which featured a much more complex story and characters and seemingly expanded on what Nanoha introduced.
Nanoha StrikerS the  characters had grown up and ten million other characters were introduced which LOOKED damn interesting but were not really looked into (mostly the well equiped beautiful ensemble known as the Numbers).

Nanoha Betrayers is a doujin that increases the seriousness ten-fold.

The artist behind this one is known as Himura Nyuugyou (比村乳業), best known for his Sword Dancer doujinshi as well as a more recent Bakemonogatari. doujinshi.

Not much happens in the doujin, despite it being 60 pages. It’s relatively interesting, the artwork is gorgeous. So I’m actually just going to talk about that.

First off, we get to see the most sinister depiction of the White Devil yet.

Around this time you will probably be wondering why the hell is this guy making doujinshi when he could be paid tons of money to make those ultra-detailed Warhammer 40K artworks (like this)? Umm point being, Himura puts alot of detail in this work.

And he manages to make Hayate look damn intimidating! Admittedly the addition of the army outfit adds to that. But the way the whole thing is shaded really gives off a really cool atmosphere. Im going to resist making the caption: “Don’t mess with Hayate”. Cause the image pretty much speaks for itself.

And then of course expositional shots like this contribute to the atmosphere. Nanoha was never fully political, but this page makes the series look like it’s based solely on politics and military.

The fight scenes aren’t bad either. This doesn’t look like a Mahou Shoujo battle. It looks more like two gods fighting over who gets to wipe out the universe. I’d say the only real problem with the doujin is that this single fight scene between Nanoha and Fate (and later Subaru) pretty much is 50% of the entire thing.

Another problem is that there isn’t enough Signum, THATS A REASONABLE COMPLAINT! I don’t think I need to emphasize how well he’s captured the feel of the characters.

The doujin ends with Vivio apparently getting involved in the whole scheme of things…….which is kind of abrupt, made more upsetting by the fact that the author hasn’t really planned on continuing this story.

I hope you enjoyed this clip show. If you want the translated doujin. It’s available over here. And lets pray doujinshi creators will look over this work and take notes.

Anyway it’s a cool doujin and it’s a good example of how doujinshi can make the original work more interesting to people who prefer complicated stories.

So now that I’ve set up this blog to review 18+ material. I shall begin by refering to an artist that only draws very explicit stuff.

Daitoutaku is an artist with a hard line style of art, meaning lines are emphasized.
More interesting is the fact that whilst the cover above is relatively tame. It features rape as the main er…feature.
In fact all of Daitoutaku’s doujins involve rape. Whether it be an original work or from a series.

How did I find this artist and this doujin? Well I’ll list it out

1. I was trying to find more art to satisfy my rabid elf fetish
2. On IRC I hear of a series “Seikai no Senki” which features an elf girl as one of the leads
3. I try getting into the anime of “Seikai no Senki” and “Seikai no Monshou” only to find that the series
is slow moving and expositional….I don’t have time to get into it.
4. I delve into the doujinshi, this is first one I find.
5. I look into more of Daitoutaku’s doujinshi….find that it’s all rape related.

Well first I’d like to discuss rape in fiction. Rape always seems to be on the awkward side of erotic media.
Just because I read stories and view depictions of rape does  not mean I support it of course.
Actually this discussion shall be saved for another time

In any case……

It begins with Lafiel awakening after an explosion, and rushing over to Jinto.
I particularly like the way Toutaku draws Lafiel’s expressions here. Using the hard lines he’s able to make the whole image easy on the reader.
Since I didn’t actually read/watch much of the main series, Im not certain how in love the two characters are. Essentially I could only see that Jinto had a quiet sort of affection for Lafiel.

Lafiel tries to take vengeance on one of the nearby soldiers. Needless to say that doesn’t work out……and you can pretty much guess whats going to happen next….cause this is a rape doujin.
I find the the lower-right panelakward to some extent. Lafiel’s face looks good. But the soldier looks like a badly-drawn western cartoon character,

Aaaaaaand here’s where I start getting guilty about reading this. It kind of creeps me out that I get alittle turned on by Lafiel getting really vulnerable all of a sudden. What was funny is that nearly every single doujin I found was of her being vulnerable, Im betting this is because she is not vulnerable at all in the original series…..and so this is giving the male fans what they want…..Kind of disturbing really.

And the horror begins.
Thats the last screencap Im posting. Cause I’m what you would call a “pansy” and I already half broke down when making this post.
What happens next? Rape, more rape, and the Jinto getting shot while Lafiel apologizes for not being able to do anything.
Then there’s some 4-koma to end it on a happy note.

Yes this should help you recover from the fact that a girl was raped and a guy was executed. TONE SHIFT MUCH!??!

Im really unsure why I decided to write on this. I really do like the way Toutaku draws things, cept there’s the obvious question on why s/he’s decided to do rape as the main theme of his/her work.

Most notably, I really love how s/he draws Lafiel. The novel’s artwork is very cool but I find the anime’s artwork too soft…….Not really what else to say on that end.

Ultimately (why does it sound like sound like Im writing an essay?) doujinshi is fascinating because of doujin like this. Doujinshi allows fans to take existing characters and put them into a different situations with their own art.
However, Im willing to bet that the original author of the series would not approve of his heroine being violated……Infact the original series takes war in a much lighter approach. So this is a case of a darker and edgier interpretation (thats a trope, go look it up if you want to spend half the day on tropes).

Up next?? I think I’ll review a non-ero but dark Nanoha StrikerS doujinshi.

Being disastisfied with my other blog. Being half-hearted and only mentioning ero-related topics on the side. I decided to make a blog that would allow me to review such 18+ material.

This is my third try at running a blog, and I pray that it will be the one that I update atleast weekly. Holding schedules is hard for one such as my self……but it’s no problem to try again.
