I wasn’t dead, just quiet.

I haven’t bothered mentioning it, but progress on the translation has begun/continuing. A great ally named Lordcoan has done all this fine work.

Ok since I’ve …..sort of gotten used to college. I figured it was time for an update.

My goals are as follows

1. Learn enough Japanese to forward my own translation

2. Find time translate.

3. Confer with others to help me out.

I’m doing good with #1. But since I suck with time management #2 has trouble happening and since I get nervous as hell when talking to anyone about group work #3 has even more trouble happening.

There I said it. Thank god. I still will not give up on this project. Sure it’s not happening but that doesn’t mean I have no interest in continuing it.

Hey all. Bet you thought I was dead.

The project has been going relatively smoothly. Other than being indirectly asked to stop doing it (I’m that (AMATEUR) translator mentioned)

After working with hacker named ViruX over IRC for the past two months. “I” had made progress (as in I didn’t do any work except answer one or two questions). Even so though, I have learned abit more about how these things progress

There was the matter of how the extracted text should be formatted. Since I was hoping for the project to be hosted on TLwiki, Virux suggested that I use a modified form of the Script Template. With that, I got the assistance of Tinfoil who worked with me in recreating the template so it looked good.

Then of course the scripts needed to be uploaded to the TLwiki. Because the Python tool was too complex, and I was incompetent in using the php tool, I asked for VDZ to upload everything. Which worked out geat

Of course as I arrived back from my College Orientation (oh yeah, I graduated from highschool BTW). ViruX revealed to me that the project had received a formal C & D (Cake and Dumplings) email/letter. Thus the site administrator was forced to remove the files, though he was kind enough to let take what I needed before it was removed (you’re a nice guy Moogy)

Not fully mentioned on encubed, is the fact that I anticipated the C & D (Chips & Dip) but hadn’t thought about how to progress past it. Eukleia/Eushully had already indicated their fear of feminists by re-releasing Meishoku no Reiki (Slave Princess of Darkness) as “PRINCESS OF DARKNESS” (in all english letters).

Ultimately we (meaning ViruX, Tinfoil, and I) decided to set-up an SVN server (which was only possible with Tinfoil countering my stupidity). Which I will not link to just yet  cause it looks ugly and I don’t wish for Eukleia to catch on (paranoid am I?).

tl;dr – I don’t mind Cheese & Danish (yeah I’m hungry), I’m a stubborn person so it really didn’t matter if any person in authority told me to stop translating the game. Feminists be damned, I will sit here smoking my non-existent cigarette (don’t smoke, it’s bad) with a face that resembles Tohsaka Rin’s uncaring chibi face.

My current situation

Of course, for anyone who knows me as part of the eroge community, you must be wondering what the hell I’ve been doing as opposed to blogging about eroge.

Here let me talk about my amateur translation project.

First off, as I have mentioned countless times, I am a huge fan of games made by Eushully. So much that I am trying to crack their game structure and make it possible to translate their games.

First it was a matter of understanding the structure.

I first used a CG extraction program to extract all the of the game’s files. So I got to see that they were similarly compiled. Then I found two other programs, one that extracts everything (again), and another that can take the script files (.BIN files) and extract their readable text to be edited.

Then  I was able to acquire a tool that access all parts of their games, but only their games made before 2008, which was unfortunate because Battle Goddess Zero was high on my priority list. The tool in question is called XAGE (AGE is the name of the game engine), acquired by a fellow kvaj, who apparently kept it since he found it all the waaaaaaaaaaaaaay back in 2005.

However, the tool allowed re-insertion of text, which was helpful, cause it allowed me to see some results.

So yeah. I translated the first line of an ero-scene in Genrin no Kishougun II. But of course the text is only part of the whole thing, there are also the images (ie. graphical buttons not affected by the game script) that need to be translated.

So originally I was embarking on a long fruitless quest to try and update this tool, seeing if I could get it to work with 2008 games and allow image insertion. Asking my programming teacher to help me use some decompiling software…… this didn’t end up much of anywhere (though I was able to find out that it was written in C++).

And so the voice of reason, another fellow named Jtle, tells me that it’s unnecessary to directly insert the images. Because the game structure can be overwritten by using the same filenames on files (of the same type) and then putting them inside the game folder.

So I tested it a bit, renamed some tracks from . Found this works for all of Eushully’s games to date, so it’s just a matter of converting edited images to AGF format.

This leads to me waking up one morning and realizing “hey maybe I could overwrite the scripts too! That way I could insert a translated Ikusa Megami Zero script into Genrin no Kishougun BIN file and then extract it and have it override Ikusa Megami Zero’s file!” …..Did did I lose you?

….Point is. I thought I found my solution in wanting to translate Eushully’s game past 2008.

I tried out my “grand solution”, finding that the scripts can be overwritten!!!! (big smile on my face here), but I couldn’t use the method I wanted to edit 2008 game’s files. Thus I’ve been trying to find the stuff behind the .BIN files for the last few days.

So anyway the goal as of now for myself is working on “BMP to AGF” image converter, and figuring out how the game script and .BIN files are connected.

But of course there’s the major problem in that my Japanese is not very professional as I’ve have said countless times (I should just put that in the “about” oage), but if this project becomes bigger and someone else does the translation, I have no problem having my part of the project being limited to overriding the script and converting the images.

So this project hasn’t really  “begun”, but it’s still active. There thats what I’ve been doing.

ATTENTION ALL DAMN PEOPLE

So much not considering this blog dead.
Whilst I formal blog on the The Fool. I will be alittle more random over here.

First up is “Soukai no Valkyria”, this is by Anastasia which is the sister company of Eushully (whose game I love very much), and of course

Valkyria features artwork by Yakuri, who did the work for Himegari Dungeon Meister (read about that here), and so because of that I was instantly drawn in.

From what I could grasp (cause my Japanese is TOP TIER, as I have said countless times)…..

The protagonist is Lucia, the new commander of a submarine (as when the game begins the first commander is killed off), and so she rallies the all female crew to try and complete their duty to their country, Nordenfelt in the war against Feldea(?).

Of course they are later met with the arrival of male commander and some male POWs, which later leads to alot of twists and turns, and suspicion, and rape.

With alot of political and military jargon, the game was abit hard to understand. But I felt kind of intrigued by the whole thing.
The music is surprisingly good I felt, very mood conveying.

I’ve gotten past the main part of the game….and thus the rape. Ultimately it’s hard to form an opinion on it.

I have feeling that this game was intended as an experiment by Anastasia to see if they could create a full-fledged visual novel and make sales from it (as most of their games before it atleast had minor gameplay, I need to play those BTW).

Overall it’s not an amazing game, but I’m amazed how managed to draw me in even though I was only interested in the artwork.

Next is Chou Gedou Yuusha. Which I downloaded solely because it had hot-mermaid sexorz in it.  Yes I love mermaid-sexorz that much.

Im not sure, but Im pretty sure this game can be defined as a nuki-ge (for masturbation). The mermaid isn’t even a main character, if you decide to go her route the game becomes very short. But Im ok with that, I mean I only played through her route anyway. Her name is Luca and she speaks very formally, and it takes quite abit of time for her to actually get annoyed at the protagonist (Lux, who bears a resemblance so close to Rance that one wonders why Alicesoft isn’t wagging their finger at this eroge) as he is having his way with her, she has an erotic voice BTW.

“But Avisch” you might say “Why only play it for mermaid? Surely the mermaid isn’t the only good thing about this visual novel”

I’ll respond with “Yes she is, infact she’s the only character in thsi whole game that looks remotely beautiful”

And I do think that. The only reason I won’t post CGs other than Luca is because the majority of the other heroines are drawn by a different artist, and I don’t know that artist’s name but I don’t think I will look it up.

And just for the sake of randomness I will post a bunch of  “sex witth bishoujo that have lower torsos consisting of serpentine nature” cause they are damn sexy.

Follow Fate into battle!

Alright. This is non-ero. But it is still really damn dark.

Well lets just describe Nanoha for a bit.
The first series (Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha) was rather cute at the beginning before sinking into some more serious issues (mostly based around Fate). Then came Nanoha A’s which featured a much more complex story and characters and seemingly expanded on what Nanoha introduced.
Nanoha StrikerS the  characters had grown up and ten million other characters were introduced which LOOKED damn interesting but were not really looked into (mostly the well equiped beautiful ensemble known as the Numbers).

Nanoha Betrayers is a doujin that increases the seriousness ten-fold.

The artist behind this one is known as Himura Nyuugyou (比村乳業), best known for his Sword Dancer doujinshi as well as a more recent Bakemonogatari. doujinshi.

Not much happens in the doujin, despite it being 60 pages. It’s relatively interesting, the artwork is gorgeous. So I’m actually just going to talk about that.

First off, we get to see the most sinister depiction of the White Devil yet.

Around this time you will probably be wondering why the hell is this guy making doujinshi when he could be paid tons of money to make those ultra-detailed Warhammer 40K artworks (like this)? Umm point being, Himura puts alot of detail in this work.

And he manages to make Hayate look damn intimidating! Admittedly the addition of the army outfit adds to that. But the way the whole thing is shaded really gives off a really cool atmosphere. Im going to resist making the caption: “Don’t mess with Hayate”. Cause the image pretty much speaks for itself.

And then of course expositional shots like this contribute to the atmosphere. Nanoha was never fully political, but this page makes the series look like it’s based solely on politics and military.

The fight scenes aren’t bad either. This doesn’t look like a Mahou Shoujo battle. It looks more like two gods fighting over who gets to wipe out the universe. I’d say the only real problem with the doujin is that this single fight scene between Nanoha and Fate (and later Subaru) pretty much is 50% of the entire thing.

Another problem is that there isn’t enough Signum, THATS A REASONABLE COMPLAINT! I don’t think I need to emphasize how well he’s captured the feel of the characters.

The doujin ends with Vivio apparently getting involved in the whole scheme of things…….which is kind of abrupt, made more upsetting by the fact that the author hasn’t really planned on continuing this story.

I hope you enjoyed this clip show. If you want the translated doujin. It’s available over here. And lets pray doujinshi creators will look over this work and take notes.

Anyway it’s a cool doujin and it’s a good example of how doujinshi can make the original work more interesting to people who prefer complicated stories.

Daitoutaku is an artist with a hard line style of art, meaning lines are emphasized.
More interesting is the fact that whilst the cover above is relatively tame. It features rape as the main er…feature.
In fact all of Daitoutaku’s doujins involve rape. Whether it be an original work or from a series.

How did I find this artist and this doujin? Well I’ll list it out

1. I was trying to find more art to satisfy my rabid elf fetish
2. On IRC I hear of a series “Seikai no Senki” which features an elf girl as one of the leads
3. I try getting into the anime of “Seikai no Senki” and “Seikai no Monshou” only to find that the series
is slow moving and expositional….I don’t have time to get into it.
4. I delve into the doujinshi, this is first one I find.
5. I look into more of Daitoutaku’s doujinshi….find that it’s all rape related.

Well first I’d like to discuss rape in fiction. Rape always seems to be on the awkward side of erotic media.
Just because I read stories and view depictions of rape does  not mean I support it of course.
Actually this discussion shall be saved for another time

In any case……

It begins with Lafiel awakening after an explosion, and rushing over to Jinto.
I particularly like the way Toutaku draws Lafiel’s expressions here. Using the hard lines he’s able to make the whole image easy on the reader.
Since I didn’t actually read/watch much of the main series, Im not certain how in love the two characters are. Essentially I could only see that Jinto had a quiet sort of affection for Lafiel.

Lafiel tries to take vengeance on one of the nearby soldiers. Needless to say that doesn’t work out……and you can pretty much guess whats going to happen next….cause this is a rape doujin.
I find the the lower-right panelakward to some extent. Lafiel’s face looks good. But the soldier looks like a badly-drawn western cartoon character,

Aaaaaaand here’s where I start getting guilty about reading this. It kind of creeps me out that I get alittle turned on by Lafiel getting really vulnerable all of a sudden. What was funny is that nearly every single doujin I found was of her being vulnerable, Im betting this is because she is not vulnerable at all in the original series…..and so this is giving the male fans what they want…..Kind of disturbing really.

And the horror begins.
Thats the last screencap Im posting. Cause I’m what you would call a “pansy” and I already half broke down when making this post.
What happens next? Rape, more rape, and the Jinto getting shot while Lafiel apologizes for not being able to do anything.
Then there’s some 4-koma to end it on a happy note.

Yes this should help you recover from the fact that a girl was raped and a guy was executed. TONE SHIFT MUCH!??!

Im really unsure why I decided to write on this. I really do like the way Toutaku draws things, cept there’s the obvious question on why s/he’s decided to do rape as the main theme of his/her work.

Most notably, I really love how s/he draws Lafiel. The novel’s artwork is very cool but I find the anime’s artwork too soft…….Not really what else to say on that end.

Ultimately (why does it sound like sound like Im writing an essay?) doujinshi is fascinating because of doujin like this. Doujinshi allows fans to take existing characters and put them into a different situations with their own art.
However, Im willing to bet that the original author of the series would not approve of his heroine being violated……Infact the original series takes war in a much lighter approach. So this is a case of a darker and edgier interpretation (thats a trope, go look it up if you want to spend half the day on tropes).

Up next?? I think I’ll review a non-ero but dark Nanoha StrikerS doujinshi.

This is my third try at running a blog, and I pray that it will be the one that I update atleast weekly. Holding schedules is hard for one such as my self……but it’s no problem to try again.
